Elon Musk announces that he has implanted the first brain chip in a human being

The company Neuralink, owned by the tycoon, assures that the product will be aimed at people who have lost the use of their limbs so that they can control their mobile phone or PC using only their mind. Neuralink is investigated for the death of monkeys in the experimental phase.

The company Neuralinkowned by the billionaire Elon Muskhas already implanted the first brain chip in a human being, a product called Telepathywhich will initially be tested by those people who have lost the use of their limbs.

“The first human received a Neuralink implant yesterday and is recovering well,” Musk wrote on the social network X, “initial results show promising neural spike detection.”

The function of the implant will be to “read” brain activity in order to transmit orders that help restore some severely damaged brain functions after a heart attack or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, which lead to serious damage to communication capacity. According to Musk, this innovative implant “will allow you to control the phone or PCand through them almost any device, just by thinking”.

The initial clientele will be those who have lost the use of their limbs, Musck explained, adding: “Imagine if Stephen Hawking could communicate faster than a speedy typist or an auctioneer. That’s the goal.”

Little else is known about Telepathy, and also the identity and age of the person are unknown to which it has been implanted.

Neuralink, Musk’s company that claims to have achieved the implant, is being investigated by US authorities after the death of several monkeys in the experimentation phase of these chips.

In 2021, Neuralink published a video on YouTube in which a monkey with a chip implanted in its brain appeared playing a video game that it controlled from its mind. Musk then assured that the monkey “is literally playing the video game telepathically using a brain chip.”

A few months earlier, Neuralink successfully tested a chip in pigs that, implanted in the skull, allowed the animals’ brain activity to be measured.
